Want to go deeper...
...into the recesses of your desire, heart, sorrow, love, fear? Sounds scary but I know you are intrigued.
I have been reacquainting myself with *The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer.
The first time I read these words I felt breathless. Like she had put something on paper that was neatly tucked away inside my heart. I recently read the entire book and I highlighted more than I left blank. It's a super quick read...although you will probably digest it slowly just like I did, in small bites as to savor every word she writes. Here are a few of my favorite passage and a challenge at the end for you. I know you want to go deeper!
On Love Making: "I want to savor each discovery of touch as the infinite unfolding of the other. I want to slow it all down, to wander around wet, aching for what is to come next, so I will know when I have been fully entered, whether by your body, your story, or just simply the moment that passes between us."
On Death & Dying: "When I imagine myself as an old woman at the end of my life and I ask myself how I will evaluate my time here, there is only one question that concerns me: Did I love well? There are a thousand ways to love other people and the world--with our touch our words, our silences, our work, our presence. I want to love well. This is my hunger. I want to make love to the world by the way I live in it, by the way I am with myself and others everyday."
On Surviving Hard Times: "When it is hard, I will remind you of what you already know. That you can do this; that the courage to go deeper is found by letting your desire grow larger than your fear; that strength is found in your longing to live fully, your willingness to settles for nothing less."
On Playing the Fool: "I would not trade one moment of the loving for the assurance of a predictable outcome or protection of my pride. For I learned to discern between heat an the warmth of real intimacy, between power and passion, between intensity and love. I discovered the wholeness of longing for a mate--the need for a friend, and partner where I had sought only a lover."
TGM Challenge (I will share mine very soon)
Meditation for Desire // Sit in a comfortable chair with a pen and paper nearby. Take three deep breaths in through your nose and exhale out through your mouth, letting your weight drop to the bottom half of your body as you exhale. Let your shoulders drop and bring your attention to your breath, following the inhalation and the exhalation for several moments. If your mind wanders gently bring it back to the breath. Follow the rising and the falling of your belly with each breath. Now pick up your pen and paper and begin to write completing the statements "I want...", I need...", I desire..." do this for a five full minutes. Do not judge what you you are writing. Let if come freely, this list of what you need, want, and desire. Speak the unspeakable, hear what your heart and soul most long for without judgement. Surprise yourself. Tell yourself something you do not already know.
How did that feel? To want what you really want and long for it without censorship. The second part of the challenge is to share one of two of your desires. Let's be brave and support one another. Leave a comment and share or use the contact form.
